HPIM0980.jpg

I used a drill press to create two 1/8th inch drill hole templates. These are very handy when drilling the aluminum panels. I first trial fit up the panels using Clecos in the holes where Factory Five had screws, then I mark on the panels with a permanent marker. I trace around the frame steel tubes to give me an idea of where the holes need to be drilled. I used the 2 inch template for the footbox aluminum, and the 3 inch template for the rest of the panels. I found the easiest way to drill the holes is with the panel off the car. Once I have drilled all the holes in a particular panel, I Cleco it to the frame and drill through the panel holes into the frame. I use more Clecos as I get holes drilled to hold the aluminum panels in place and close to the frame tubes. I use the clamps to clamp the templates to the aluminum panels on the workbench until I get a few holes drilled. I then use Clecos to hold the template in position on the panels while I drill the rest of the holes through the templates.
