Beskid Niski

Landscape Photography of Beskid Niski

The lowest range in the all Carpathians Mountains. The Beskid Niski is a land of low mountains, beautiful valleys, gentle slopes, easy accessible creeks and picturesque river ravines. The highest summit is Lackowa (997 m). Also the caves are an unquestionable attraction in Beskid Niski region (in the Jasiolka Valley there is the biggest in Polish Beskidy cave complex and four the most famous caves are on Cergowa Mountain). It is the longest mountain range in Poland and rather sparesly populated region of Poland. This is why nature here has preserved its original pure beauty.

In the 1992 it was established Jaslinski Natural Park and in 1995 Magurski National Park. Within the Park boundaries 10 nature reserves has been established.
Flora of Beskid Niski belongs to a transition zone between East and West Carpathian Mountains. The meadows here are full of herbs. In the park only we can observe 767 species of vascular plants, 160 moss' species and over 500 species of mushrooms. Among the plants of Magurski National Park there are 82 protected species.

The forests are full of wild animals: deer, roe deer, wild boars, beaver, bader, marten, otter, lynx, wildcat and foxes, 20 species of bats as well as brown bear and wolves (about 20 specimens). 137 bird's species including rare birds like: cranes, black storks, numerous woodpeckers, corncrakes, quails, kingfishers, ravens, columbines and some other predatory birds like owls, buzzards and sparrow hawks. Reptiles are represented by lizards, adder and grass snake. Among amphibians, attention should be given to mountain newt, carpathian newt and numerous species of frogs and toads. Invertebrate fauna is also interesting, especially insects, which include over 70 species of butterflies, 15 species of bumblebee and some very rare species of beetles.

National Park and nature reserves, ancient Orthodox churches, old cemeteries and chapels attract the attention of tourists.
