December 1999 - January 2000
My sister was living in Kurihama, about 90 minutes from the center of Tokyo, so I took advantage of a free place to stay in Japan and camped out there for about a month.
Usually each day I would get on the train and get off at a different station and hang out there for the day.
Here are some of the results.

The pic's were great. Reminded me of the time I was stationed in Yokosuka (1962-1964). I too visited Kamakura, Yokohama, Tokyo, Mt. Fuji and Miyajima and of course, Shimbashi Station in Tokyo was the focal point on my journeys. The yen exchange was 360 to 1$ - now it is about 107 to 1$. Any chance of purchasing any of your pic's?

Brought back memories of my time in Japan! I lived near Yokosuka for several years! I will have to dig out some of my favorite Japan photos! Thanks for reviving the memories! It was definately a unique culture to experience and like everyone else it remains a special in my memories. Enjoyed your gallery!

Yes, excellent slug. I keep hearing the same theme over and over again in the comments: "Japan is my second home". I feel the same way. I went to Tokyo my 1st time in July 2001. Then in 2002-2003 I had a wonderful girlfriend in Osaka. Sadly, we broke up. My times in Japan have been the most wonderful in my entire life. If I live to be 100 Japan will be THE place in my heart. I lived in Hayama for two years in a fantastic little house with twenty two sliding rice paper doors. These photos took me back to a wonderful time in my life. Thank you. I wish I could go back there again.

Hello there,

I enjoy your photos very much. I could sit here for hours and write out nearly every reason why. I choose instead to sum it all up within a few sentences. I lived in Japan for five years. I arrived in August 86' when Bon Jovi's "Slippery When Wet" album was most popular along with Mari Hamada's. I was just a kid. I left Japan July 91'. Unfortunately I have not been back since. I miss it very much. I remember Japan every day. My home in the U.S. is decorated with Japanese art and furniture. Japan is the place I could live for the rest of my life. I can hardly say that Japan is my second home. I would like to think that it is my only home, though I was not born a Japanese National. I reside in the U.S. for now but I do wait for the day I can return to Japan. These photos do take me back to the time Japan was my home. for For this reason I find them very good.

I've been living in Tokyo, Saitama, and Hiratsuka.
Your pictures remind me everything about Japan... really nice. :)
I really miss there. :) Yeah, of course, I'm flying back sometimes, cuz Tokyo seems to be my second home.

Great pictures from Japan! I visited Japan for the first time in October of 2001 and fell in love with the country and its people. I spent several days in Tokyo, and your photos offer glimpses into the sometimes strange, occasionally confusing, always colorful and fascinating world of its own that Tokyo is. Kudos!
