Glamour may be everything to some, but not to others. I will admit that the photos do show excellent contrasting subjects, but that is beside the point. Maybe some people view smoking as "exciting," but I don't see it that way at all. Smoking is more like self-murder, only it's slower and it can harm other non-smokers. And I, for one, don't think that people look attractive smoking. Obviously, smoking is a bad habit, and also, what is so intoxicating or alluring about toxic fumes that come from a cigarette? To reiterate, I really have nothing against a smoking person, it's just their habit that I'm against.

Interesting article in the news today. A fellow is rock climbing, gets his arm trapped and he cuts it off to free himself. For this, the news treats him as some kind of hero. Apparently there are many dangerous, senseless risk-taking activities which meet with society's approval: mountain climbing, sky diving, car racing, horse racing, bull fighting and so on--I'm sure the list would be quite extensive. But pity the person whose risk-taking pleasure happens to be smoking--this, and apparently only this, is treated as a no-no!! Nice pictures of people--women in this case--enjoying their particular pleasure.

From a purely aesthetic perspective, the sight of a woman smoking when she’s doing it gracefully and correctly, is beautiful and compelling. People have been taking pictures of women smoking since there have been cameras. With a little research you will learn that they painted portraits before that, at least as long as women have been allowed to smoke in public. You can make valid points about tobacco marketing, but there’s a current running deeper than just the inertia of pop culture smoking imagery. And it is attractive, though many people won’t admit it. I suspect many people are, in a very child-like way, incapable of reconciling the beauty and attractiveness of smoking with it’s inherent destructiveness, and so reject it as ‘gross’ or ‘ugly’ as a reaction formation. Perhaps it’s just a sign that a girl is just not uptight or a prude: maybe many women start smoking for it to be perceived as a symbolic weakness in an otherwise formidable image. “I know I’m gorgeous”, thinks the girl sitting at the bar lighting up a Marlboro Light 100, “but I’m not too prissy about myself. I’m accessible. I’m just a little bit dirty.” The fact that this symbolic gesture is aesthetically attractive (at least in this setting, and for the moment that’s all that matters), makes it that much more effective. Not only this, but what better excuse to talk to a girl (or be talked to) than the very practical matter of lighting a girl’s cigarette? Some of us are very aroused by beautiful girls on the road to self-destructive burnout. Cigarettes, vodka, coke…who cares if it makes you old before your time, as long as you look good and f*ck good on the way there? Women aren’t worth anything to anybody of consequence by then anyway, and they’ll be lots of other fresh young things to take their places. As far as women go: You Are as You Look. Glamour is everything. On the other hand, having myself been involved with smokers and non-smokers, I have to say that the allure of smoking only seems lasts as long as the mystery does in any relationship. Get involved too long with a girl that smokes and you get to see her smoke not just at a bar or club someplace when she’s primped and gorgeous, but hung over some morning in wrinkly sweats with her hair fucked up like a rat’s nest, smoking cigarettes with the same demeanor a hardcore heroin junkie shoots up, and for exactly the same reason. And for the gentleman hilariously trying to defend smoking with forty year old R J Reynolds propaganda: give us a break. I don’t think that there’s any real organized empirical data that says jumping off of a ten story building causes death either, but thanks to common sense and collective experience we all know there is. Jumping off of a building will, more than likely, kill you, and likewise smoking if you do it long and hard enough. That’s as much a fact as anything is. This subject has always interested me, partially, because of the diametrically opposed opinions you are likely to encounter when people talk about it, not to mention the fact that I like to see gorgeous women smoke, and I don’t feel the slightest bit guilty about it. I’m not really going anywhere specific with this, just throwing out some ideas. Comments, anyone?

I think it's really interesting that half of the comments here are from people who think smoking is disgusting and they're trying to or have already quit and half are from smoking fetishists. It just goes to show that different people can look at the same image and have such completely different reactions. Me? I think these pics are hot!

Very helpful site for girls who want to stop smoking. I quit two weeks ago and am having a rough time with it. These pics remind me of what I looked like. Each of these girls is beautiful, meanwhile seeing them holdign a cigarette totally takes away from the image. They look terrible. Trashy. Cool site.

As I recall, people try to lay claims that so many people die of lung cancer, because they have smoked or had in their past life. Yet and I mean Yet, there isn't any evidence tracing lung cancer, breast cancer or any other diseases to smoking. It's a quick reply to what may be the cause. Yet, many never look pass that fact and see if it's genetics or contributed to other factors as drinking, or eating certain foods. Breathing alone kills more people than any other known substances all combined. The air contains some of the most harmful bacteria's and deadly viruses you'll ever face. Death is needed people and our world will be over-runned if we keep prolonging life beyond normal capacity, as you can see already. I don't wish death on anyone, but people of the jury, wake-up it has to happen. Whether I or any of you like it or not. Quit with the bans and let adult people enjoy their life.
