Forever Frozen 01_22_07.jpg

Awhile ago I purchased a World War One vintage P-08 Luger pistol which came with a 1938 German military issue holster. Some of you know I like to photograph my firearms. This pistol needed something out of the norm. Some how, I hoped this concept reminds people just where these types of weapons took the world.

The concept, the camera setup and hand are mine. I had Wanda snap the shutter.

Canon EOS 5D ,Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM

Bill, I have watched your work over the last year or so, and have been very impressed. Whilst lots of comments are about Wanda, this image is perhaps one of the best I have seen. Living in the UK we have seen recently many images over the last 2 or so years from Vietnam, Korea, Bosnia and so on, but, this is a very powerfull image indeed. It makes you think, and that is ultimately what images are all about.

Message is obviously clear and very well done. But the execution of this photograph is superb. Everything from the slight bit of snow on top of fingers an thumb, the barrel of the gun crossing the horizon line, focus point of the hand rather than the entire gun (oof snow is completely appropriate here), the arresting color of the hand being fainter version of gun grey. Easily, this must be one of your top ten photographs.
Thank You!

I agree with Stan, just mesmerizing Bill. The picture may be simple BUT you have the eye and the vision of the shot. Very nice.

The only think that I'd like to see different is a bit more definition to the snow. Otherwise, WOW! My mind immediately took me to a battlefield where someone's beloved fallen soldier may have been left behind due to a reason we'll never know. This is where a photo is worth a thousand words!

very strong message from such a "simple" photo.
Brilliant! (I know, it's complicated to be simple. I'm in awe)

Amazing! This looks incredibly authentic. So much so it has my think of Bastogne and the Ardennes. Exceptional work, Bill. V.

Words cannot express my reaction to the image. Execution (no pun intended) is magnificent. Been there and can only add my heartfelt bravo to you.

I did take a look at B&W and thought it lost some impact.
Steve Mastellotto23-Jan-2007 13:54
I love it Bill - Voted. I am curious, did you try it as a B&W?
John Lester23-Jan-2007 13:39
I would say a historical photograph. Place, the Ardennes, time January 23, 1945.
