Wanda01_22_06.jpg

I'm not sure what to say about this image. It was a little bit of a lighting experiment. I also wanted Wanda to just stare into the camera without much emotion. I think I need to rethink the 'no emotion' thing.

Oh well at least it is a photo.

damn!

I see sorrow it gives her eyes a depth that needs exploring.
guest 03-May-2006 14:38
Bill,
I disagree. I think showing no emotion shows another aspect of Wanda's sheer beauty. You done one with her during the Wanda a day series near Christmas
where she had a Bah Humbus stocking hat on.
She was totally gorgeous. It was a close up mostly of her face, but none the less a great shot of Wanda. Of course nobody is gonna want to just see her face when she has all those other beautiful body parts.

Now do you guys have any idea how nice I'm going to have to be now that we have linked all of those great and lovely Wanda in her natural state images. I keep hoping she'll forget and forgive me for posting them. "

It's gotta be awful cold sleeping outside this time of the yr. lol
Love your work Bill, and Wanda,...what can I say! Incredable blue eyes!

I have been paying attention for some time now...
In fact, I sort of remember a shot of Wanda with white coldcreme (cream? sp) all over her face with cut cucumbers over her eyes and hair in up in rollers.

Am I right? or is that what I see when I first wake up? Hmmm...
Jim McKinlock25-Jan-2006 01:51
Bill,
In regards to Ellis you forgot this one.
http://www.pbase.com/slowpokebill/image/33735526 at least according to your description Wanda's fresh out of bed, Sorry Ellis no flannel tho, and as for a crampy bloated nag worried about dog and cat dropping's I'm not sure anyone wants to see that.

On another note, as I mentioned in an earlier comment on this photo, I hate to see Wanda looking sad. This one really got to me.

I know, I know, it's all creativity to show different emotions, but Wanda's a dream girl, I prefer to dream about a happy Wanda.
Wm. Bates24-Jan-2006 14:59
Ellis, you don't pay attention do you...or at least you haven't looked all the way through the "Picture a Day of Wanda " Gallery.

Sorry no flannel jammies. Wanda doesn't wear themhttp://www.pbase.com/slowpokebill/image/34821659

How about a shot without a bit of makeup and her not donehttp://www.pbase.com/slowpokebill/image/35380327

You see they have all occurred to the Bates family...lol ;^)
ellisjames 24-Jan-2006 06:54
How about a "fresh out of bed" photo.

No intention of "sexy".
Basically a shot of what does Bill really see first thing in the AM?
No makeup, drooling like the rest of us over the first cup and yesterday's newspaper? Crampy? Bloated? Flannel jammies for the umpteenth night in a row? Same damned sheets on the bed for more than a week? Crying grand kids? No new listings in a fort-night? Bothered by that client from hell? Dog's accident near the fireplace mixed with burnt toast? Cat treat left in the box too long? Naw! none of that would ever occur in the Bates family now would it?

They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. We are seeing the soul not just the exterior fluff. She is deep in thought and what she is wearing is secondary.
I see sadness.
To make light of it, she might be thinking "would I be doing this today if I had fallen for a guy from woodshop instead of the yearbook photographer?"
Guest 24-Jan-2006 03:18
Dad,
You did a great job with the lighting and pose on this one. I really like it.
As for the lack of emotion.... There is plenty in her eyes, it's just her lack of smirk, or smile, or something that bothers me. Rather than no emotion, I think she would have been perfect with a look of content, calm, or love on her face.
But heck, what do I know. Really it is a very nice photo!
Jim McKinlock24-Jan-2006 00:49
For a lighting experiment I'd say the experiment was a great success. For the 'no emotion' thing, I'm not really crazy about it, but only because it's Wanda. If this was some model I'd never seen before I would probably like it better, as others have said 'no emotion' does stir some emotion. But with Wanda, she's such a happy free-spirited person I really don't like to see her looking so sad, it makes me sad too.

I have enjoyed your work over the past two years and have learned much from it. This photo doesn't work for me. The "no emotion" look is good, but not with way Wanda is dressed. I feel the look is something that would work better in a different setting with a different wardrobe. It seems more like a look she would have as if she were suddenly intruded upon whilst pondering a loss. I can see more clothing and somehting in the background working better. (I know folks, how can I say "more clothing" when referring to Wanda's photos!) I just feel she is emoting something that could be better captured with additional details in the shot.

For a picture with Wanda showing "no emotion"it's incredible how many emotions you two have stirred with this image.A tribute to both of your talents.Well done.
Guest 23-Jan-2006 16:32
I think it is fantastic.. there could be a whole story behind it, but the emotion thing works I think. Maybe it isn't a typical "Wanda" photo but i really like it....
Guest 23-Jan-2006 16:27
No need to rethink anything Bill. This one works. Contrary to my usual instincts, wherein my thoughts run to what the model is and isn't wearing, I found myself focusing on the face and its (lack of?) expression.
Well done by both of you, as usual.

Much like the young girl who leaves home and goes to the city to be a movie star. Later she unwillingly finds herself shedding her clothes before the camera to make ends meet or out of a belief that this will start her fame. Inside she knows it is wrong and the look of total detatchment as to being there and yet not being there is great. Academy award stuff here......(wink)......always great to see you......and Bill's creativity is always fresh and alive. You look amazing as always!
Chuck Harvey23-Jan-2006 15:52
She looks so sad... :(
Steve Mastellotto23-Jan-2006 14:27
I like the backlighting and the overall mood. Wanda's eyes are great and intense like they are looking right through you. I do agree about the mouth though in that just a hint of a smile/emotion would have worked better.
Guest 23-Jan-2006 13:51
Bill,
I've been viewing your work for quite some time now; however, never commented. Now I must. The emotion(s) I see are of fear and aprehension. If she were in all white, I'd believe her to be a virgin on her wedding night. I like it. It's almost haunting. --Micah

Just a part of the many faces of Wanda, and not a bad one in the bunch.
kej23-Jan-2006 13:25
The back lighting makes the pic. Her expressionless "expression" tells multiple stories. Nice.
Steve Patterson23-Jan-2006 13:25
To each their own...too somber and just too blank for me. Doesn't capture the Wanda within......but you look beautiful, as always.
Guest 23-Jan-2006 12:36
The picture as a whole is great as always. I think the lack of an expression on Wanda's face is what 'we' are just not use to. Couple this with the fact that when one typically sees a model dressed in sexy attire, we always expect them to be smiling or sexy... as such, thes seems to skew the picture.
Luc VN23-Jan-2006 12:01
Great "Wanda" picture... peaceful and misterious...
Dave Callahan Photography23-Jan-2006 10:10
Wanda looks so sad.Intresting lighting and i love the boots!
Guest 23-Jan-2006 07:29
Life isn't always full of emotion. This is a nice, real shot.
Guest 23-Jan-2006 06:58
Wanda looks so sad! I want her to smile :-)
Guest 23-Jan-2006 06:49
I looked at the photo after I read the comment. I can't help laughing (friendly) when seeing Wanda's emotion. She is really your mega baby, will do anything you want. Lovely!!!
Guest 23-Jan-2006 06:41
Bill, I don't know about that. I think it does convey emotions. Perhaps sad, depressed, ambivalent? Sometimes a smile or seductive look isn't reality. By the way, Wanda looks beautiful any way that you photograph her. Thanks for sharing.
