Fantastic Falls 08_02_05.jpg

I took this photo standing in the garage. It was pouring rain.

I drove to Southern Utah today, for a very quick visit and to list a home for sale. While I was there taking photos inside the home...a violent thunder storm rolled into the area. It rained a couple of inches in about 30 minutes. These normally dry, 1200 foot, cliffs are about half a mile from the home.

There was major flooding in the area washing out major roads and bridges. Between floods and fires it has been a tough year for this area of Utah.

This picture, by Wes, was taken in the dry wash at the base of the cliffs about where the big fall would hit. This spot is called "Hell Hole" on the topo map. Today with the flash floods that name would really fit.

Here is a pic from two years ago.

Talk about flash floods. You were lucky not to be out there. Fantastic shot. I particularly like the detail you were able to get of the rocks on the left.

New lightning and new fires today. Sure glad we weren't hiking the wash. I took this about 30 minutes after I got to Mom's home. When I got there it was sunny and warm. I have never seen this much water coming off the cliffs.

That looks pretty cool, but I am sure for them it sucks down there. This looks like it would put out any fire that might still be going on down there.
