Something Out of Nothing 05_10_05.jpg

I really had high hopes for a fantastic sunset. Fifteen minutes before sundown we had broken clouds on the western horizon and you could see the sunlight streaming underneath the clouds. In the time it took to setup, the clouds closed in and the sunset was a complete washout. It had been raining off and on all day; so, I thought I might try to capture the reflection of Wanda's trees in the setting sun. I caught the reflection; but, the colors never came. Well, I'm not totally disappointed in this image.

I actually like the almost-b&w aspect of the shot. Sometimes capturing "drabness" is the best representation of reality. Nice composition.

What a wonderful wide shot. Works really well!

Steve, yes the trees are just at the crest of a hill. The horizon bothers me too. I tried it with the distant horizon level and then the curb around the trees looked bad running downhill to the right of the frame. So I kind of split the difference with making the closer curb more level than reality.

I like the structure of the tree and that is a nice capture. However, is the road (curb) and horizon (in front of the mountains) on a hill? If not the horizon is not straight. The horizontal lines seem to have a vanishing point off to the left of the frame.

I've taken literally hundreds of sunset pictures and I know all too well how fleeting the moment can be.
Godd use of B & W here.

It works! Wise of you to go to black and white. Conveys the mood well.

I like it. I like the reflection in the wet pavement, as well as the great tree. Nice balance. Another nice image, Bill.
