Wanda10_10_04.jpg

I was just messing around with the 20D. Can I say this camera is really beginning to blow me away. This was shot in low light at 1600 ISO. I applied minor unsharpen mask filter, cropped and posted. No noise reduction was used. I had almost this much noise at 100 ISO with the old Minolta Dimage 7.

I was impressed with how clean the images were from the 10D; but, the 20D images are simply amazing.

Awwwwwww, My precious Orrin G. He loves to be scratched. While this image doesn't have a lot of ME in it, it does accurately reflect a part of My life that I enjoy very much. There is just something special about having a purring kitty in your lap. (s)

OK, ISO 1600 looks great, Orin looks cute, but where's Wanda? A hand that's all we get?
Well if you can't tell, I'm just teasing. I stop by to everyday to see your lovely pictures of your gorgeous wife, but I always check out the rest of your work and am always impressed with whatever you shoot. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing with us all. Jim

I just want to agree with Bill that photos that look fine before pbase often seem to pick up a lot of artifacts when posted on their site. And the sky is the most obvious spot to see it. I would be interested in correct work flow, though. I am sure I am not correct in how I do mine. Would love your comments on proper flow.

Argishti, so far I have had zero problems or lockups with the 20D. I did just update to firmware 1.0.5 this weekend. So far so good.

WM. Bates, 100000 thanks for your professional information and clarification.
Thanks again. I enjoy your galleries very much!
I think I am going to get me the 20D. That is if someone is going to by my 300D in first place ;-)

btw. do you have any hang-ups troubles with your lovely 20D?
Some folks at dpreview.com saying that they still have this problems after updating to 1.0.5 firmware?

Thanks in advance.
cheers

Argishti, what your seeing when you see jaggies in the sky is jpeg artifacts. It can be caused from lots of things in post processing and how the images are saved. Your not seeing them from 300D because you have a good work flow. It isn't so much a function of the camera as the processing. One another thing you pickup lots of jpeg artifacts when looking at files here on Pbase at sizes other than original. Pbase does a bad job resizing here.

Sorry, I was meaning Nikon D70 and Nikon 70D - still sleepy!

WOW, very beautiful cat Wm. bates! Excellently captured. Very lovely!
ISO 1600! WOW - terrific for ISO 1600!
I mostly see with Canon 10D, 20D and the Nikon 70D something which makes me to think twice if I want to get the 20D or not. Well if you shot a blue sky with Nikon 70D or Canon 10D and 20D at even ISO 100, the sky is very "jagy". What I mean is that the sky is not so smooth??
I've never had this problem with 300D! can someone clarify this problem?
cheers

It would be a pitty, Bill, if the camera manufacturers where not finding better ways to manage the noise in there cameras. It was the noise that made use of high pixeled chips allmost impossible once. Today, the software included in cameras progresses to make this better and future cameras will make steps forward in that direction. The new Minolta uses the same chip as Nikons D70 and Pentax 1stD and they push it up to 3200 ISO. Let's wait and see if they managed it in a good way. Canon is beside of Fuji at the moment among the best when it becomes to manage noise levels. This cat is real hughe btw.
