Richard, What kind of thrill would it be to take bear photos from the car. This was from the tripod (just at the tops of the sage brush with me sitting cross legged on my butt) with nothing but 50 yards of brush between me and the bears. We had a favorable wind and good cover; so, we watched them for about 30 minutes.
Wildlife photography is what I do. I pay very close attention to an animals body language and keep the wind in my face. Knowing when to back off keeps me healthy I worry more about ticks and mosquitoes causing me harm than the animals I photograph.

Bill & Wanda,
I hope you were in your car when you took this one. Even at 400 mm range, Grizzlies, particularly with cubs, are a menace. I've seen a human body that was worked over by one, and it's ghastly. On a lighter note;
BILL; What do we do if it charges us?
WANDA; Run.
BILL; You can't outrun a grizzly Wanda!
WANDA; I don't have to outrun the grizzly. I only have to outrun you!
