Timber's First Ruffed Grouse10_12_09.jpg

This is the first Ruffed Grouse I have shot over Timber. Today was a good day for him. He bumped the first three grouse of the day. but he is beginning to figure out those spooky little ruffs.

He had a good solid point on this one and as I turned to approach the bird it flushed wildly. This male quartered away to the left through an opening in aspens and maples. I turned back to make what was a quick and easy shot. Next we really need to work on his retrieving

Timber is cute. However, if you're going to have the same picture up for nearly two weeks, I would much prefer it was a picture of Wanda :-)

A note from the Peanut Gallery (me); First, Timber's expression actually looks modest and almost embarrassed. He looks like he's thinking "What? All this fuss over me? Don't you know that this is my job and what I've been training to do? What did you expect?" Second comment for Bill; Looking GOOD! The facial hair is great and looks like it's the "real you"! I encourage you to keep it! Second, also, I'll echo the comment from John Lester ... the weight loss is GREAT! Way to go!

Nice picture but you gotta get Timber to work on his smile! As always you "fans" appreciate the updated photos..

Hey Bill,
Your photo reminds me of the first time I hunted pheasant with my Golden.
For three hours we walked the fields without success.
Then we stumbled on a pheasant, and I shot it.
My dog looked at me with an expression that said, "oh, that's what we are here for, why didn't you say".
In the next half hour, she flushed four birds.
From then on all we had to do was walk into a field; she would either signal go back to the car, or take me right to where the birds were.
Enjoy the fall,
David

Good picture as usual from the Bates Family. Question who took this picture of Bill, Timber and the Grouse? Had to be Wanda-ful Wanda, who else would cause Bill to have a gleem in his eye?

Congrads on the shoot. Facial hair looks good also. Also looks like you dropped a few pounds.

Congratulations, Timber
That bird looks bigger than I would have imagined
