Smoke Bombers 08_01_08.jpg

I took this from the back porch of our home. There is a pretty good brush/forest fire burning on the mountain behind our home.

We're safe but homes a little closer to the fire were evacuated. Luckily the fire seems to be burning up the mountain at this point and away from the homes.

Just a quick update. They have evacuated the block just to our east just to be safe. We're okay but need to get some sleep Wanda has a big ride tomorrow. So here are some fresh photos

The fire is 30% contained this evening (Saturday)
They evacuated 72 homes. Due to great work by the fire fighters none were lost.

Today this big helicopter was using the irrigation pond behind our house as a place to fill. It made for a great show ... that last pic is at 70mm with a full frame body no cropping ... can we say close to the house

These show a little of the damage and how close we were. The firefighters worked hard to save our neighbors home and orchard. The house just behind us were all evacuated. We wondered if we would be next. I took them over our back wall

Wow. I missed these shots before. That first picture is fantastic and scary at the same time. You get the feeling the action was closer than one would like it to be.

It's too bad sure a beautiful picture needs to be taken. You really caught the action, it's just a shame that the plane had to be there. Never been in a forest fire, closest was perhaps a control burn as we left The Grand Canyon NP last year. The rangers allowed only one way traffic through the smoke as we could hardly see 30-50 feet ahead for most of the time. Hope all are well and save some views for us as we are heading your way in very late Sept. planning to see Dinosaur State park, Provo, and Salt Lake City, then up to Yellowstone. Take care, hope Wanda is all healed up, Ed and Maralee
