A Basilica for the Nation's Capitol

The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, on the campus of Catholic Universtiy in Washington, D.C., is one of the few Western Catholic church buidings designed in the Byzantine (early medieval Greek) style. Its foundation was laid in 1920 and the church itself completed half a century later. This Basilica is one of the ten largest churches in the Western hemisphere.
