Devil's Post Pile

The Devils Postpile is a rare sight in geologic terms. This site is considered the world’s finest examples of columnar basalt. Its columns tower 60-feet high and display an unusual symmetry.

Geologists have no idea how far the columns go but suspect that what we can see is just the tip of the iceburg.

I've included pics of Twin Lakes, which is on the way to Mammoth (where you take the shuttle down to the Post Pile).

Enjoy!
