A sand hill crane joins a skating party of geese, coots, ducks and gulls on Trustom Pond NWR in South Kingstown, R.I.
Not usually seen this far north, the bird has stuck around for a week through an Arctic blast that brought temperatures down to 5 degrees.
This was taken from about a tenth a mile away.
