I used to go on these roads in the Goldfield Mountains with family years ago before they were fenced and gated. We always stayed ON the established roads. I can see why they were fenced off and gated. They've certainly been abused by others who have no respect for the desert and have driven all over OFF the roads creating a MESS of confusing roads. I guess there was a lot of illegal dumping going on also. Even now with the roads gated the two times I entered FR10 off of Wolverine Pass the gate has been shut, but not locked. In the instructions given when you obtain a gate pass code you must lock the gate when you enter or exit and you must stay on marked roads only. Both those rules were being broken when I was there. According to the instructions, if people continue to break these rules a more restrictive permit system may be considered.
