An umbrage is oft supposed to be doubt over one's character. Actually, the word is derived from the Latin 'umbraticum', that is, shade or shadow. Such is also the root for umbra or penumbra, you know, when a body in space, such as a planet has its illuminating light source eclipsed and falls into shadow. A shadow hung over our Nancy here in this picture as she battled the umbrage.
