Message from Dick Taylor
I'm a retired Navy F-8 Crusader pilot that lives in San Diego. My love of airplanes was first inspired by my brother Bob's model airplane building during my grade school years. Later my oldest brother was drafted in the Army during WW-II and was taken out of the infantry and placed in a pilot training program, but before he was able to finish his training all pilots in training not past a certain phase were returned to the Army in prepartion for the push to wipe out Hitler. Bob later joined the Air Force during the Korean War and was a gunner on a B-29. After his four years seeing most of the world, he came home and after college worked on Saturn Rocket Programs and ended up with LTV, the company that built my F-8. I joined the Navy after college in 1957 and enjoyed about 22 years chasing the tail end of aircraft carriers around the Pacific. I made five and a half cruises to Vietnam and played softball in the Philippines while South Vietnam folded. All fighters and most every other squadron was off loaded while the USS Hancock picked up about 5000 Vietamese from helos and boats and brought them back to PI. I enjoy taking pictures and spent my first two cruises in photo Crusaders, all cameras - no guns or missiles. I thoroughly enjoy viewing most any airplane photo and beautiful scenery. My gallery just started with my trip to New England in 2006, but I hope to post as many pictures of the beautiful Hawaiian Islands as I can in the next 10 months since we are spending a full month in Kauai and a beautiful Marriott Resort about 25 miles west of Honolulu called Ko Olina. Most recently I visited Oklahoma for a high school reunion and a visit with my brothers and sister. Had my 75th birthday in 2010. In October 2012, Jean and I celebrated out 50th wedding annniversary. Had a great turnout with lots of pictures and a lovely dinner and breakfast. Thank you Cathy. My sister Lillian and brother Doc have left me now, but I gained Teresa and Toni Lynn who have proven to keep me happy. Grandma and grandpa have Diana and Andrew with them now and we will have a new baby around the first of the year[2014] so look for pictures of them then.
