Arctic Tern

Iceland

There are two reasons I chose this picture: This bird is remarkable. It almost circles the globe each year. Maybe no bird travels more distances. It goes as far as the Antarctica during winter and goes to the northern hemisphere to breed during summer. It's a very aggressive bird during breeding and attacks in groups any unwanted intrudors. The other reason is that I saw this picture in my mind long before it was taken. The location is a golf club by the sea where this bird nests in thousands. It's very easy to get close to it. I got the 100-300mm F 4.0 EX lens mainly for bird photgraphy. This was one of the first pictures I took with that lens. I was very pleased with the sharpness this lens can deliver.
