The Great Zippy Protest, San Francsico 1.17.02

In 2002, the San Francisco Chronicle announced they would remove Zippy the Pinhead from daily print. Outrage shot through the city, and massive protests took place at the Chron building. In response to all the impassioned voices, the strip was reinstated.

However, it was deja vu all over again in 2004, when the Chronicle decided to remove Zippy from print. Not even a personal appearance by Bill Griffith could save it this time. Images from this event can be seen in the next gallery.

Zippy the Pinhead is synonymous with San Francisco, and the Chronicle appears incomplete without Zippy.
