Mesquite Moonlight Meander

My friend Sheila invited me to join her for a unique tour of the Mesquite Cemetery (400 Holly Park Road, Mesquite, Texas).
Perhaps she did so because she knows I am a bit quirky and like to collect interesting obituaries and I am also fascinated by old cemeteries and tombstones. I also believe that everyone has a story to tell.
This particular event certainly combined all of those interests.

Unfortunately the first night we attended, it was thundering, lightning and threatening heavy rain ("Perfect!" you say); however, the event was cancelled.
You see... this was not about ghosts, goblins and things that go bump in the night, but rather about real human beings who lived their lives with many of the same struggles we endure today and some were instrumental in the development of the little town of Mesquite back in the late 1800's and early 1900's.

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the cemetery and the stories that "the dead" had to tell.

This event was presented by Historic Mesquite, Inc. with the Mesquite Community Theater.

A special thank you to those whose research made for an unusual graveyard experience and for those who portrayed the deceased.
The stories were intriguing, particularly since we were standing next to the tombstone of that deceased person.

I almost had to pinch myself to remind me that this was indeed not the person who had died.
The genuine respect and caring for the life of each person featured was uplifting and memorable and I certainly hope this will become an annual event.

And now... to the graveyard...
