Sept. 3, 1861 - Oct. 30, 1871

During her very short life, Florence Irene Ford was terribly afraid of thunderstorms. Whenever one would occur, she would run to the safety of her mother's arms for comfort.

When she died of yellow fever, her mother was so grief stricken that she had Florence's casket made with a glass window. She also had stairs constructed so she could go to the little girl and comfort her during storms. A hinged metal trapdoor covers the opening and it can still be opened to this day.

Some years ago, a concrete wall was built over the window at the bottom of the stairs to prevent vandalism.
