Sacred Kingfisher

Have only seen 2 of these in 40 years of living here.
This one was sitting high up on a power line in my front garden today :-)
I ran in, grabbed the camera, changed the lens to the 100-400
and managed to get a couple of shots before he flew off.

I find some of your Australian birds to be so different than those we have here in Virginia - Getting close to a Kingfisher is always a challenge

How wonderful - after 20+ years on the Norfolk Broads I have only twice managed to see kingfishers sitting still! Brilliant!

Beautiful capture, perfectly exposed, with great detail on the wing and a lovely pose.

Wow...they don't usually spend a lot of time sitting...the only way I've managed shots is after they fly into our glass doors & know themselves silly for a few moments :>) You captured his detail beautifully, Sheila.
