There's a lot of good photography out there, there's a surprising amount of great photography out there, but just occasionally you stumble across pictures that go beyond either of these. I've spent a lifetime studying the history of photography and the best practitioners of the art and have come to the conclusion that two of the most important elements of a stunning image are an innate understanding of the use of light and an empathy with the subject that shines through the picture. My apologies for straying into lecture mode but I wanted to paint a background to explain that these are the qualities that I have found in abundance on Sheila Smart's website, particularly in the Zoo and Ferry Portraits galleries. The best pictures reinforce the importance of our personal connection to the world around us and these are truly inspirational. Sheila, I also owe you a huge vote of thanks for re-igniting my love of photography at precisely the point when I was in danger of losing it. Incidentally, I've recently invested in a 5D and L lenses and can't believe the resolution and IQ of the images - more importantly, is it just me or is there a special "5D quality" that other cameras don't have. Either way I just love this camera - once again something I have you to thank you for.
