I've registered to do the parkrun (5K) at this park so just checking it out. You get a bar code and just turn up.
There's one every Saturday morning at 9.00 am so am thinking about trying it out on Saturday.
In fact I've discovered there are parkruns all over the country and some in other parts of the world too - and you can do any of them if you want to.
