10 April: Market Place

Bolsover

The shops in this row, 42 to 46 Market Place, are the earliest commercial buildings remaining in the town and appear on a town map of 1634.
I've been over the border into North East Derbyshire today with a friend, and most, if not all, of the towns and villages there have created their own town trail with printed Blue Plaque Guide.
The guides give a history of the town with photographs and details of historical buildings and the trail takes you to each blue plaque.
I think it is something we should adopt in South Yorkshire!

1634 - that's a grand old age and sounds like it even beats the plague. The shops are doing quiite well!

I like shots like this - they tell the story of our time. In the last 40-50 years the scene would have changed a lot - plastic plant pots and flower wraps.

Very well composed image, like the reflections in the window, I agree, these plaques are always interesting.

A wonderful piece of history.... And I like the way the flowers are able to spill on to the road....
