Chitabe Dining Room

The food at all of the camps was excellent and abundant. At around 6:30am we always had a light breakfast before leaving for the morning game drive where sometimes (but not always) we would stop for a bush break and our guide would bring out coffee/tea and cookies. We then came back to brunch which was always eggs or an omelet to order plus some sort of casserole, two or three vegetables, fruit and cheese and crackers. I always left some room for the cheese. At around 3:30 we had afternoon tea which was an appetizer and some fruit along with drinks and a light dessert such as carrot cake. We then went for our evening game drive and almost always stopped for a sundowner (wine or cocktail) and more snacks as we watched the sun go down. The dinner feast was at 8:00. Here we always had a starter - either soup or a unique appetizer. My favorite was three cheese mushrooms. Three mushrooms, each with a different cheese, broiled and set on top of what I think was maple syrup. (Someone still owes me the recipe for this one.) Then there was always a meat dish plus a vegetarian dish along with a starch and two or three vegetables. Oh, and lettuce salad which I never had. (I can eat that any time.) Then there was always a light dessert to end the meal. I usually tried a little of almost everything and with only a few exceptions it was all good - vegetables fixed with unique spices including lots of things I would not normally order in a restaurant but since it was there I tried it. I thought with the way I was eating I would be gaining lots of weight but I didn't. I think it was because the food was so healthy - lots of veggies and nothing really heavy. Along with the good food there was always interesting conversation around the dining table. This was the best opportunity to talk with the staff and other guests from all over the world.
