By Suzhou Creek

Suzhou Creek runs along the north of shanghai. A tributory of the Yellow River, the life blood of Shanghai, the little river has been at the centre of Shanghai's history as far as man can go back. Historically, the main route of trade inland, later the industrial heartland, and during the Sino-Japanese war, the front line between Japanese forces on the North side and the international concessions on the south. I hadn't been there before, but had heard that much of what was there was being torn down and rebuilt. But as ever, what remains is the people. These pictures were taken mainly on the North Side of the river, on the bridge, or under it.
