The main draw of El Calafate is the Perito Moreno Glacier which is spectacularly visible about an hour and a half's drive from El Calafate. Our trip took a little longer as our local guide took us on an older road where we were able to spot much more wildlife than those doing the straight shot from El Calafate to the glacier. The southern ice field of Patagonia, of which the Perito Moreno Glacier is part, is the third largest ice field in the world after Antarctica and Greenland.
