Sailing for the 75th Anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge, 27 May 2012 The fireworks started at 9:30 PST and were truly spectacular. The organization of the event was superb. Follow this link 75th Anniversary Event to see more details about the schedule of events. Around 9:30 lights went off on the bridge. Than a "bridge of light" appeared on both sides of Golden Gate. The gold sparkling rain moved from the sides to the middle of the bridge, closing the entire passage from San Francisco to Sausalito. It was simply breathtaking. Later the firework display went off two barges, one in front of the bridge, the other at Crissy Field and so the spectators observed one of a kind "double concerto" turning their eyes at the Golden Gate, or at the Presidio. Our main objective was not to get into trouble with the many other boats. The Bay was full of vessels of all kinds. Everybody was cruising in circles and trying to stay a safe distance from each other. After the end all mariners used their horns, bells and whistles to applaud the great display of pyrotechnics. Once the horn concert was over, an incredible wave of vessels of all kinds and sizes moved at the same time across the bay to their marinas. On the port side we saw huge number of green lights moving on the water, and just as many red lights on the starboard side. |
