Our charter was again with the
Marina Sailing,
which still holds on to six locations in Southern California. The
Newport Bay subsidiary of Marina Sailing does not maintain any office in a building
anymore. Good so, if it helps to stay in a good standing. The other club "Sea Time"
on Via Oporto by Lido moved to a flamboyant office, and... went down on its running cost!
Marina Sailing charter fleet is now docked in the Balboa Marina between the small
Linda Island and the Highway 1. Two restaurants are directly adjoin to the pier,
parking is aplenty and the building by the pier hosts facilities for the sailors.
The biggest difference to the 2009 trip is the increased liveliness of Avalon: It is literally bustling now, 3 years after the big 2008 stock market crash. As a matter of fact, despite coming in the middle of the week, for the 1st time in all my trips we did not got any docking place in Avalon proper, we were send out to the Hamilton Cove. Long haul on a dinghy to town! |
