I went over to Deal on a windy summer's day, and was amused to find a big flock of seagulls testing their wings and honing their flying skills by the pier. They'd stand on the edge of the promenade, spread their wings and let the strong wind lift them up, practising gliding and turning. There were a few mid-air collisions, but most of them seemed to be doing alright.
