The week of October 5, 2006 brought to New Orleans some 550 Junior League members from all over the United States. Most had traveled at their own expense and donated their time to help the City in its recovery from the destruction wrought by Hurricane Katrina. Some of them worked on houses in uptown New Orleans and the Lower Ninth Ward. Some of them dug and raked and planted in City Park. On this particular day when I took these photos the temperature reached 90 degrees with high humidity but the ladies did not quit until their job was complete. They all had the same comment "you cannot believe it until you see it with your own eyes--television and newspaper reports did not prepare us for this devastation."
Hopefully, some of the members will find themselves in these photos. On behalf of the people of New Orleans I send them a very heartfelt "thank you!"
