May 2011

The Mississippi River was at flood stage along its tributaries. The rushing water into the Bonnet Carre Spillway brought fish for the wading birds who had babies in the nests. The Spillway was opened on May 9 and stayed opened for 42 days with 330 of its 350 bays bringing water to Lake Pontchartrain.
