Opened 16 days and no end in sight

Bonnet Carre' Spillway

The River gauge at the Spillway locks is the same as it was on opening day, April 11, 2008. Billions of gallons of water have rushed through the locks on its way to Lake Pontchartrain. And, billions more will go through the Mississippi from the states north to Minnesota and all the tributaries. It was a winter with a lot of snow and a spring with a lot of rain and it all drains to here.
Why hasn't someone done something to turn this into energy--what a waste.

That amount of water is almost mind-boggling.
There is a lot of drama in this shot; the powerful water coupled with the awesome sky.
