George Kugler Family - Photo taken Where Spillway Now Stands

Hermitage Plantation

George Kugler, standing on right, was born in Germany and came to the United States, married Sophia Marie Arthemise Madere, bought the Hermitage Plantation and raised his family there.
They were all hardworking people with a great sense of honesty and dedication.

As much as we have all enjoyed the spillway, sometimes you have to think how much different it would have been without it! I am sure these families and more were very disappointed. And Ms. Colleen the 2 Kugler ladies that lived in Norco where Greauds and the old Ace hardware store were, are they in this photo? I remember the 2 Gernsey cows they had in the big pasture. Ain't but one thing certain in life ...and that is change!Hoping all is well and thanks for the stroll down memory lane again!

I love the old photos! We had the previous owner of our property give us a picture of his family. c, 1900 of our property. We were able to go to an archive of property deeds, and find the original owners who purchased the property in 1855! I can't believe we were so lucky! The original log house was built in 1855 I believe as the property was bought on Dec 16 1855,

It's a shame that such places were expropraited. How much more history was lost with the creation of the Bonnet Carre, and Morganza ???
