April 19, 2008 and the Fishing is Good for the Birds

Viewed from western side of Spillway

The River water is rushing on its way from the opened Spillway locks and on to Lake Pontchartrain.
The refinery in the background is Motiva-Shell Chemical.

Dear Ms. L.

Temporarily working in the N.O. area I successfully searched the internet about the Bonne Carre Spillway, not knowing what it was when I drove over it on the Interstate. Indeed, I was lucky to find your website. With the river rising your photographic chronicle has been as good as any in reporting with excellent photographic skills the ninth opening of the spillway. Ansel Adams would be proud of you. Thank you for educating this ignorant Texas boy about the history of this area and of this marvel.

So, that is where all the birds are. I'm having a heck of a time finding them around here!

Birds look like they are having a feast. Maybe it is because only 25% of the gates are open, it doesn't seem to have the fast current that it did the last time it was opened. (Or maybe it's the memory beginning to go bad ??)

The submerged tree trunks tell their own tale. Life along your waterways can be tenuous at best. Great shot.

What stands out for me in this photo are all the refineries across the way.
