April 11, 2008- Ninth Opening of the Spillway - Wouldn't Have Missed It for the World

Bonnet Carre' Spillway

Mississippi River is on the left and the Spillway is on the right.
My grandson took this photo of me with my camera. In 1997 I took him out of classes in elementary school for the opening of the Spillway. Now he is in college. It was very windy and bright and temperature in the 80's. It was 74 degrees at 8 a.m. Monday morning it is predicted we will be in the 40's.

You HAVE to be there for these rare occasions!

Great shot! The equivalent here in RI would be the closing of the hurricane barrier which has only happened 4 times since I have been in RI. The close the barrier to prevent a storm surge from flooding the city in the case of an hurricane.

Aunt Coleen,
We knew you would post a picture about the opening of the spillway. We are trying to figure out which side of the spillway the road is on from where you are standing.

wish our ancestors could talk and tell us how they feel seeing all this water passing over where their plantation homes use to be. this is a beautiful photo of yourself and the setting of the spillway.

Coleen,-- now the whole frame really makes the picture. You can see what is happening and the interest
of the people. Well done! (you look gooood!)

So nice to see you again. Looks like a fine day in the midst of all this crazy weather.

Looks a bit windy! I saw the other image you posted of the water coming out of the spillway. Quite impressive. Your grandson did a good job as it is a good image. :) Monte
