A Row of Century Old Shotgun Houses

One block off of Bayou St. John

In New Orleans under the current administration the right hand never knows what the left hand is doing because neither one has a clue.
These cypress houses were cleaned after the floodwaters went away and secured. One of them is occupied at the moment. However, the City had an order out to demolish them. Quite by accident, the owner read it in the newspaper under a long list of demolition orders.
With available, affordable houses at a bare minimum these houses are valuable, aside from the fact that they are part of the historical architecture.

What a crying shame to demolish such beautiful old dwellings. So pleased they are to be spared.

I can't keep shaking my head. It's been such a god-awful series of terrible events from our government it's hard to remember it's actually true.

Why are they called "shotgun" houses?
