The Ravaged Live Oaks Remain and Patiently Wait

Bay St. Louis, Mississippi

Once a beachfront boulevard lined with stately homes, many of them over 100 years old, this area has only its live oaks to depict the force of Hurricane Katrina's 30 foot tidal surge from the Gulf of Mexico and winds of over 140 miles per hour.
Many people plan to rebuild as soon as insurance companies work out the problems. Farther down the coast towards Alabama in places like Biloxi the gambling casinos are booming.
