From the Choir Loft - January 8, 2007

Ursuline-National Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor

In keeping with a promise made by the Ursuline nuns in 1815 following the Battle of New Orleans, a Mass of Thanksgiving was held for the 182nd year in honor of Our Lady of Prompt Succor.
The Ursuline nuns prayed that the City of New Orleans be spared in the war with the British and when learning that victory had occurred they promised that each year on January 8 they would sing the "Te Deum" at a Mass.
New Orleans Archbishop Hughes presided assisted by Retired Archbishop Philip Hannan, Auxiliary Bishops Morin and Carmen, Baton Rouge Bishop Robert Muench, Abbot Justin Brown, O. S. B., and Auxiliary Bishop Fabre.
The crowns on the gold statues above the altar are made with jewels and precious stones donated by the people of Louisiana and these crowns are only worn on January 8.
The Ursuline choir sang. A reception was held in the dining room following the Mass.

It must have been a lovely service. Great shot with difficult lighting.
