All That is Left of the Historic Southern Yatch Club of New Orleans

A full moon rises over Lake Pontchartrain over the gates at the entrance to the Southern Yatch Club, the second oldest yatch club in the United States. During Hurricane Katrina the Club House burned possibly from a ruptured gas line. However, it probably would not have withstood the tidal surge of Katrina.
Today the Mayor of New Orleans announced that he is hiring a Recovery Chairman, some fifteen months and many full moons after Katrina. This chairman, a Mr. Blakely, supposedly led the recovery of New York following 9/11 and San Francisco after an earthquake and also did some consulting work in Sydney, Australia. The chairman is off to a shaky start if his tenure here is like the press conference announcing his appointment. He became so angry with a reporter when the reporter asked him his plans that his face was twitching and he said he would not entertain such a stupid question.
Way to go, Mayor, better late than never when half of the people who have not returned to the City have decided to stay where they are!

Coleen,

With one photo accompanied by a factual article you have captured the "love - hate" relationship, so many of us have, with Louisiana.

Beautiful shot. The story upsets me and although the image you have taken is beautiful, I do pray that something can be done.

This is a striking photo. The story is disturbing, but my prayer is that Mr. Blakely can turn things around.
