Cottage

My sixth day of porches/galleries/verandas.
This small cottage has a porch/gallery where children play when it is too hot or rainy to go outdoors. The swing on the end is a necessity on a southern porch. The hollowed out tree on the stand was once used as a water trough for farm animals. The owner is a collector of antiques and rare findings.
The walls in this house are very thick and made of plaster. We spent Hurricane Gustav in this house in 2008 and could not hear the horrendous crashings of trees and the 100 mph winds that roared by. Only when morning came and we could go out into the town did we realize what a bad storm it was.

I like how you included some of the sunlit branches in the foreground. It gives the porch a feeling of protective seclusion. Very appealing.

It looks cool and breezy. Here, folks sit on the porch and wave to the cars that go by. I imagine from this beautiful photo that it's the same there.

This is so nice, the theme you've chosen is great.

No, this is a cottage raised about 3 feet off the ground. We have no cellars here--our water table is too high. The proper Louisiana house, at least in southeast Louisiana should be raised off the ground and not built on the ground. The early settlers knew this, but modern construction thought it was old fashioned and they're paying the price.

Im finding the 2nd doorway (?) really interesting- Does it go down into a root cellar or some kind of storm refuge?? More, please.

Love those swings. Miss them. You know we Yankees living out here in the west don't even have front porches let alone swings.
