I am into my fourth day of porches and galleries; we'll see if I can do it for a week.
My father always called our porches "gallery", such as "the front gallery", "the back
gallery" or "the side gallery." A gallery is always roofed and is usually supported by columns or posts. This is considered a "wrap around gallery."
Most Louisiana galleries have a ceiling fan or two on them to stir the hot air in the summertime or to chase the mosquitoes. These are outdoor rooms and extensions of the house itself.
