Swannie

New Orleans City Park

This is the only swan left in City Park. She is a four year old daughter of Mamma and Papa Swan.
Swannie and her sister lived mainly in the little lake behind the Museum of Art. Mamma and Papa Swan banished them when the new cygnets were born in May, 2005.
Three weeks following Hurricane Katrina when the water subsided in the Park Swannie was the only swan I found. She remained in the Park and in Bayou St. John surrounded by geese and ducks. She seemed to be always searching and appeared very lonely.

Thank you, Coleen. Beautiful shot! Isn't she wonderful? I must have been mistaken...thought she is now 4, but I'm glad she's 3. She has more chance to get a mate and have her own signets. It's really cute to see her hear me, put her head up, and glide over to me. Sometimes I go where she can't see me, but can hear me, and my husband watches her. When she hears the voice of "The Welcome Wagon" as Phil calls me, she comes paddling quickly. She likes whole wheat bread, and when on land, whole corn. Cheers, E.
