Gentilly Neighborhood

New Orleans

This area was developed immediately after World War II (1940's) to furnish housing for GI's who were eager to have a home and raise a family. It was almost considered "the suburbs."
People are slowly returning to tear out the flooded walls and floors. Many are living in FEMA trailers in their front yard. The blue roof is one of thousands you can see throughout the Gulf Coast region--it is a temporary fabric material to keep the rain out until a new roof can be put on a house.

What a mess. Good to see some folks able to make a new start.
