St. Bernard Development of Public Housing

Gentilly in New Orleans

These are some of about 100 buildings that comprise the Public Housing Development known as St. Bernard Development. The buildings are rock solid and hundreds of residents did not evacuate for Katrina because they thought the buildings were adequate to withstand the storm.
Unfortunately, when the canal floodwalls at the 17th Street Canal and the London Avenue Canal broke this entire area flooded. Residents were evacuated from rooftops.
It is unoccupied at this time.
