The Old and the New

Holy Cross is a private school run by the Brothers of Holy Cross. It is not an Archdiocesan School.
The boys had been in school only 10 days into the school year when Katrina hit. Most of the classrooms on the second and third floors are just as the boys left them the afternoon of August 26, 2005.
Following Katrina a satellite school was established in Baton Rouge on another high school campus and the boys along with the girls from Cabrini High School on Esplanade Avenue, commuted about 130 miles roundtrip each day for classes from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. After two months Cabrini High School was able to reopen its doors in New Orleans and the girls attended classes in the morning and the Holy Cross Boys began classes at Cabrini from 2 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
On January 24, 2006, the boys will once again return to Holy Cross but will attend classes in the portable classrooms (at right) that have been built on the parking lot. At least the seniors will be able to finish out their senior year on this historical campus.

Wow.... sad. The dead azaleas, the student parking lot occupied with portables and the gym with a gigantic hole in its roof. My dear alma mater has seen better days. But then, so has New Orleans. Such a great, beautiful school. I have faith Holy Cross will soon continue its mission at the new campus -- I guess like our fight song says: "What though the odds be great or be small, old Holy Cross will win over all..."
