Date Door and Live Oak

I took this photo to show how well the live oak tree sustained the hurricane. All over New Orleans the live oaks are bruised but still standing.
When the Academy had a boarding school and the Ursuline nuns were still a cloistered order, this was the door where the girls met their dates to go out. There is a little grillwork window in the door where the nuns would speak to the dates before letting the girls out the door. This entrance is still known as "the date door."

Dear Collen, The date door goes back to the college boarding students. The last year of the college, I believe was 1953. I boarded fulltime from September of 1953 until I graduated in May of 1957. I can promise you that no male crossed that thresh hold as a date during those years.
