Riding High

Louisiana

This ship is just outside the Spillway locks. The River at this point is about 150 feet deep.
My mother was the caretaker for many years of a kerosene operated light near this point run by the United States Lighthouse Service. The light warned ships at night and in the fog to steer clear of the land.

i wanted permission to copy this pic for my art album i am working on. When we were kids (we lived "on the River" in Vacherie. My brother Gerald Kliebert would throw bottles with notes in them, hoping that a river captain would find his bottle and one certainly did. I cannot remember where he found it but it was not in Louisiana. He struck up a friend ship with him and they became penpals. Its a page on Notes In a Bottle honoring and remembering my brother and his experience. thanks.
